I Realize I Haven't Been Here Lately, But....

I realize I haven't been here lately, but I have been writing. No, really! Still working on the "book". It's a strange experience, writing a book. Some days I read what I've written and I'm appalled at what a no-talent deluded excuse for a would-be writer I am. Other days I read it and I think, damn I'm good!

Some days I read a novel (by someone else) and think, god, that writer is really bad, how did she ever get published, and I laugh in her general direction, scathingly certain that my own skills are far superior. And then I remember that, whoever the novelist is, she is allowed to at least call herself a novelist, because she has, in fact, written a whole entire novel, and not only that, she has also managed to publish said novel, and not by self-publishing either but by a real honest to god respectable publishing house, which means she must have an agent too, and probably also has a two-book deal that's already been optioned for the movies....whereas I have my stinking draft that's been percolating, moving forward in fits and starts, so who in the hell do I think I am criticizing another writer, especially one who is obviously more successful than I?

Do you see what I go through every day? So it should be no surprise that my progress is slow. Mais, I have made decided progress. I can't say when it will be done, it does need work, but I'm at the point now where I'm thinking of finding an editor to help me with some of the rough patches. Don't really know where to begin with that .....

All writers go through that kind of stage. Bestselling authors also have their fair share of discouragement and gloomy days. The key there is to face it, take action, and move forward. Nothing is going to change until you face it. I'm sure you'll be able to achieve your goal.

Keep on writing, we believe in you--always.
